Tony Crilly pose after 30 minute cycle cool down
Running has always been more than exercise for me—it’s a lens through which I view life, work, and growth.
As I love running, cycling and swimming, running is my favorite.

I continue to run, I am about a dozen hours short of my Certified Petsonal Nitrition and Certified Nitrition Certifications; and curently.looking launch a dide hussle whether hrick & and mortar or virtual but what fo you think of my advertisement with a couple of like-minded individuals I hope to launch with.
It takes time! Running now for 10 years – 10 year anniversary sinc3 lacing on a pair of Asics and heading put the door. Why? I dont know. I guess to cope, stay healthy and contnue health and fotness in my life. Every mile, every stride, and every early morning reminds me of a simple truth: progress, in any area of life, takes patience and consistency.
Over the years, my experiences as a runner have offered lessons that directly translate to career success. These lessons are reflected across several posts on my blog, including Healthy Ways Runners Keep in Shape, Why Do I Run?, and From Endurance to Enterprise: How Athletic Discipline Fuels Sales Excellence. Together, they underscore a message I often share: success is a marathon, not a sprint.
1. Consistency is Everything
In Healthy Ways Runners Keep in Shape, I explored how small, daily fitness habits build long-term endurance. The principle applies to work as well: consistent effort—whether making calls, following up with clients, or learning new skills—yields compounding results over time. Small steps repeated day after day form the foundation of long-term success.
2. Understanding Your “Why” Drives Patience
In Why Do I Run?, I reflected on the deeper motivations behind my running journey. Understanding why you’re committed—your purpose—helps you weather slow progress and setbacks. In careers, knowing your “why” allows you to stay patient, resilient, and motivated even when the results aren’t immediate.
I run to move forward. Maybe I once ran away from pain, but now I run toward growth. A difficult experience ten years ago changed me. Running became evolution—shedding old versions, rebuilding new ones, and reminding myself we’re meant to transform every five years, not stay still.
3. Discipline Translates to Freedom
From Endurance to Enterprise: How Athletic Discipline Fuels Sales Excellence highlights how athletic discipline directly enhances professional performance. The long hours of training, repetition, and focus may feel tedious at the moment, but they cultivate freedom: freedom to achieve more, push further, and perform at a higher level. Discipline in work—like discipline in training—is the secret to unlocking potential.
4. Incremental Wins Build Momentum
Running teaches patience: you rarely notice improvement day to day, but over months, miles accumulate, pace improves, and strength builds. The same applies to careers. Celebrate small wins, acknowledge incremental progress, and trust that steady effort compounds into meaningful results.
5. Patience is a Superpower
The most important lesson running offers is patience. Growth is often invisible in the moment, yet persistence yields undeniable results. Just as the body adapts and strengthens slowly, the professional journey unfolds over time. The wheels of success truly do move slowly, and learning to embrace the pace is itself an advantage.
The Takeaway:
Whether running, training, or building a career, slow, deliberate, consistent effort pays off. By linking athletic discipline with professional growth, we can see that success isn’t just about speed—it’s about endurance, patience, and persistence.
